Before Instagram rolled out the ‘archive’ or ‘highlights’ feature, Stories were short 15 second photos or clips that completely disappeared after 24 hours.
This was especially freeing for me as anything I would publish would simply vanish. Instagram Stories became a casual avenue to post something each day. I felt that I could experiment with shooting or editing techniques without the pressure that comes from more serious projects.
As I continued to create and develop my own voice through stories, I began to realize that, in the midst of all the casual clips everyone else would upload to stories, my edited clips stood out and attracted an audience. I still create vertical format videos to this day for various reasons such as documenting my personal life, showcasing products, and promoting other people’s personal narratives.
